Workshop 2: Numerical Methods in Cell Biology

Numerical Methods in Cell Biology

The living cell is where life emerges from inert matter. Understanding how cellular functions arise from huge collections of interacting molecules requires concepts from physics and engineering, but the limited and anisotropic resolution of subcellular imaging, combined with the inherently stochastic nature of molecular systems, means that methods appropriate for macroscopic physical systems such as electronic circuits must be adapted to handle the challenges that arise when studying the living cell. This workshop will focus on numerical methods and algorithms for quantitative cell biology in a highly interactive format, with a focus on distilling best practices and deciding how to improve future approaches.
